“We praise people for being “naturally” smart, too, “naturally” athletic, and etc. But studies continue to show, as they have for some time now, that it is generally healthier to praise schoolchildren for being hardworking, than for being naturally gifted. We know now that to emphasize a child’s inherent ability places pressure on that child to continue to be accidentally talented, which is something that is hard for anyone to control. When the children who are applauded for their natural skills fail, they are shown to take the failure very personally. After all, the process of their success has always seemed mysterious and basic and inseparable from the rest of their identity, so it must be they who are failing as whole people. When students are instead complimented and rewarded for their effort and improvement, they tend to not be so hard on themselves. When they fail, they reason, “Well, I’ll work harder next time.” They learn that they are capable of success, rather than constantly automatically deserving of it, and they learn simultaneously that they are bigger and more complex than their individual successes or failures.”—Kate of Eat the Damn Cake, The Stupidity of “Natural” Beauty (via capefear)
“Get into the habit of dealing with God about everything. Unless you learn to open the door of your life completely and let God in from your first waking moment of each new day, you will be working on the wrong level throughout the day. But if you will swing the door of your life fully open and ‘pray to your Father who is in the secret place,’ every public thing in your life will be marked with the lasting imprint of the presence of God.”—Oswald Chambers // My Utmost for His Highest.
“Now listen to me, as a man, I know. When boys want to date you, they are going to put their absolute best foot forward. They want you to like them. They will pretend to be someone they are not. So I want you to ask hard questions. Look for consistency. And most importantly you need Christ as your center, because if that isn’t there, you have nothing at all.”—
You know what’s the best part? God cannot lie to you, so If He says you’ll be safe, you know it’s not just to make you feel better, if he says that he loves you, it’s because he does. He is able to give his most precious son to show you that. If he promised you something, He will make it happen.
If you are ever going through a bad time with anything or everything I would love to listen and offer any advice and encouragement that I can. I don’t want to just be another person you occasionally see on your dash sometimes, but someone who is here for you if you ever need me. ☺
God take my mind, my thoughts, my time, my strengths, my gifts, take whatever left of time i have in this world. Take all that i am, all that i have and all that i will be. I’ll give myself entirely to you.
